Why the Plek?
The Science of the Perfect Setup
For decades, guitar players had to settle for a "good" setup. With the Plek Station, we have moved beyond "good" into the realm of mathematical perfection.
The Plek is a German-engineered, computer-controlled (CNC) machine that scans and levels your frets with an accuracy of .0002 inches. But it isn’t just a machine—it is a sophisticated diagnostic tool that allows us to see exactly what is happening with your guitar under real-world conditions.
1. Precision Under Tension
Traditional fret leveling is often done with the strings off and the neck at rest. However, a guitar neck behaves differently when it is under the 100+ lbs of tension provided by a set of strings.
The Plek Advantage: Our machine scans your neck while it is fully tuned to pitch. It "sees" every hump, dip, and twist that occurs only when you are actually playing.
2. The Virtual Fret Dress
Before a single tool touches your guitar, the Plek creates a Virtual Fret Dress.
We can adjust the "virtual" action and relief on the computer screen to see how the guitar will respond.
This allows us to calculate the minimum amount of fret material that needs to be removed, preserving the life of your frets while ensuring a buzz-free experience across the entire board.
3. Beyond the Human Eye
Even the most skilled luthier is limited by human eyesight and manual straight-edges.
The Plek levels frets to a tolerance of 0.0002”.
It can even cut the nut slots with the same level of precision, ensuring the "take-off" point for every string is perfect for intonation and comfort.
4. Operated by the Experts
A machine is only as good as its operator. It’s an amplifier for the luthiers experience. With 10 years of experience operating the Plek machine to resolve the most complex playability issues, you are getting your service from the person the professionals go to for help.
The Result: The Best Your Guitar Has Ever Played
When you opt for a $350 Plek Fret Dress, you aren't just paying for a machine. You are paying for:
A high-resolution diagnostic scan of your instrument.
Precision fret leveling that eliminates "dead spots" and buzzing.
A complete, master-level setup performed by technicians with decades of experience.
"It’s like taking the digital 'fuzz' off the music. The notes are clearer, the action is lower, and the instrument finally stops fighting you and, finally does what it was built for with ease.”
